We had a great turn out with over 75 individuals taking part in the walk to school. Thank You to all that participated.
Dear Parents and Community Members:
At Lawrence Elementary we are always looking for ways to have a positive impact on our students and our community outside the classroom. On October 5th we will celebrate International Walk to School Day with 49 other states and more than 40 countries to encourage a more walkable world and we would like to invite you to walk with us.
While walking to school was commonplace just a generation ago, traffic jams around schools are now the norm. Students are losing an opportunity for regular physical activity that is good for their health by riding to school in cars. On International Walk to School Day, students have a special opportunity to celebrate the fun of walking and biking.
Please join staff, students and community members for our school’s Walk to School Day. Students living near the Acapulco Restaurant can join Mrs. Gendron and staff in the group walk to school. Students should arrive at the restaurant parking lot at 7:15 to begin the walk into school. We look forward to seeing many eager participants on Wednesday morning!
The Downtown Water Tower project is due to start Monday September 26th. The area around the base of the water tower will be blocked off, and for safety we ask that you keep clear of the area.
We are anticipating this Water Tower project to last for 5 weeks.
The Waste site for Village residents will be open October 1st through December 1 for clean brush and leaves. If you choose to burn your leaves make sure you follow the Village ordinance.
Sec. 12-24. – Leaf fires.
The burning of leaves shall be permitted along and adjacent to paved streets, alleys and sidewalks within the village provided that such fire shall not be less than five feet of the paved/travelled portion of said surfaces. Said fire shall be permitted further provided that it shall be constantly and regularly tended by a suitable responsible adult, and shall be maintained to a size which does not present or create a hazard of fire, spreading of fire, or emission of smoke which would obstruct visibility of the vehicular or pedestrian traffic. Any duly appointed enforcement officer of the village is hereby authorized to make discrimination whether or not said fire is or presents such a potential hazard.
